Zopiclone acts on GABA receptors in the brain by increasing the activity of GABA, thus reducing the functioning of certain areas of the brain. This results a decrease in anxiety, relaxation of muscles and sleepiness. Since, zopiclone remains active in the body for many hours, drowsiness may occur the next day.
